Latest Navigation reports (newest at the top)

28/04/08

The recent survey reavealled few surprises although reports of discarded fishing tackle to the southeast of the Crab Knoll (No.3) and Heather J (No.5) Buoys should be acknowledged. Our advice would be to make an approach from the No.2 Buoy onwards.

Twizzle Creek/Walton Channel

At the confluence of the Twizzle Creek and Walton Channel approximately 300m north of the Foundry reach spit cardinal a shoal patch may be found mid stream at 0.5m below LAT. This would be likeley to affect deep drafted vessels around low water.

As a further note, stakes used to anchor transverse moorings in the Walton channel are visible at low water, these stakes could be a danger, particularly to vessels travelling at speed towards the edges of the channel. Our advice would be to remain generally in the middle of the channel through Walton Channel and to avoid areas between the moorings and saltings.

Reports of a safe approach at high water via Pennyhole Bay over Pye Sand are unconfirmed as we have been unable to survey this area in detail. As no specific buoyage exists for this approach and by the nature of potential small obstructions over Pye Sand having a disproportionate negative impact on navigation, this route cannot be recommended over the clearly buoyed approaches.
